Circus Bazaar Magazine was established out of Oslo Norway, in May 2013. As a small political journal consisting of only a few staff, it very quickly gained notoriety via the release of research and film material that led to the successful prosecution of Norway’s largest police district on grounds of gross misconduct. Gaining a special mention in the US State Department’s Human Rights report on Norway, Circus Bazaar Magazine thoroughly investigated and reported on practices directed at African migrants. These practices were characterised as brutal by Norway’s own bureaucracy and as torture by several of its leading academics and institutions.
During the documenting of these cases we insisted on maintaining complete independence in production and distribution, which led to the hard-fought growth of an organisation capable of producing high quality material for TV, print and digital media. Before long, we found ourselves in the filmmaking business with the production of our first full-length documentary, The Serpent in Paradise. We also found that we not only had the resources to support our own projects, but also could support other organisations with their ambitions, whether purely commercial or requiring the political discretion and expertise for which we had become known.
The very mandate of our operation became capitalising on a growing global network of exciting thinkers and creative minds. On any given day we may have done a film shoot in Europe, whilst someone else has mastered its audio in the UK and with both en route to be edited in Australia. An academic paper may have been published in a United States institution and its writer may have offered its layman derivative to us for publishing. Our publishing platform and its contributors then formed the knowledge base for us to confidently supply our clients with advice on how to best tackle complex projects.
Today our operation continues to becomes more effective and mature and plays a continual balancing act between being a support operation for Circus Bazaar Magazine and working in the background for other organisations and ventures as they make their projects come to life.
